Earwax Removal

Ear Wax RemovalThe Hearing Care Centre is one of the only private audiology practices in East Anglia offering a private earwax removal service.

Ears and hearing aids benefit from regular earwax removal, which is why we have added this procedure to our portfolio of services. Whilst earwax has a number of positive functions, it can sometimes block the ear canal and lead to pain or temporary hearing loss. Earwax is very dense and can also cause havoc with hearing aids. If left unchecked, it could lead to whistling and feedback noises, and lesser quality of sound from your hearing aids.

Many GP surgeries and medical centres are now declining the removal of ear wax. In view of this, we felt we needed to fill the gap in this provision especially with easy access to our many centres spread across East Anglia and home visit service for the frail, ill and housebound.

At The Hearing Care Centre we offer a relaxed atmosphere, allowing sufficient time with all our patients to remove wax, in a safe and gentle way. We also offer an on-screen video image of the wax in the ear and the cleared ear after treatment.

You may be asked to use ear drops or Earol olive oil spray for several days beforehand. This will make the treatment easier for you.

Microsuction Wax Removal

Microsuction is a procedure which uses gentle suction to remove excessive or troublesome earwax. It is performed with the aid of an operating microscope and a finely calibrated suction device, without the introduction of any materials or liquids.

Occasionally we may need to use other instruments to remove hard wax. The technique means that we can always see what we are doing and can avoid touching the skin of the sides of the ear canal which makes the process a lot more comfortable.

Microsuction is available at our Ipswich practice every week, plus we also offer this service at some of our outside centres on selected dates. These include Aldeburgh, Beccles, Felixstowe, Sudbury and Thetford. Please contact us to find out the where and when these clinics are taking place.

Appointments will be charged at £75 for one ear or £95 for both ears. To book your appointment call us on Freephone 0800 096 2637 or visit our Contact Us page by clicking here.

Ear Irrigation / Ear Syringing Wax Removal

During this procedure, the patient sits in a chair and the ear is rinsed with warm water from an electronic irrigator. The wax and water is collected in a basin or cup-shaped device which the patient holds under their ear.

Ear irrigation does make some noise but this is not excessive or uncomfortable. Most people who have irrigation find it to be a fairly pleasant procedure.

This procedure is available at all of our centres across Suffolk and Norfolk, as well as being carried out during home visits*.

We also have a dedicated ear syringing clinic at Wickham Market Medical Centre which is held on the 3rd Monday of every month (subject to change).

Appointments will be charged at £40 for one ear or £60 for both ears. To book your appointment call us on Freephone 0800 096 2637 or visit our Contact Us page by clicking here.

(*£15 home visit fee will be added. Home visits only available to those less able to visit our clinics due to health or mobility issues).
